Religion 300 / Gospel Values, Catholic Social Teaching & Sacraments of Healing
USCCB: V. Sacraments as Privileged Encounters with Jesus Christ; VI. Life in Jesus Christ; Option C. Living as a Disciple of Jesus Christ in Society; Social Service Project (SSP); Marianist Studies
This is my 25th year of teaching at Vianney!
I graduated from St. Louis University in 1995. I began teaching at Vianney in 1995. I am certified by the State of Missouri to teach Social Studies grades 7 - 12. I am also certified through the Archdiocese of St. Louis to teach Religion. I am finishing up my Master's Degree coursework in Systematic Theology. I am a member of the Faith Formation Team at Vianney & am charged with coordinating the Social Service Project.
My husband Dan and I have three daughters, Claire, Sophie, & Ellie. We are members of Our Lady of Providence Parish where our daughters attend Holy Cross Academy.
Why do I teach? I, like many others in the profession, teach not only because my mind was touched by a former teacher but because my heart was touched as well. Many of the teachers I had while growing up at Epiphany Grade School and Notre Dame High School touched my heart in ways that no other person could. They believed in me not just as a student but as a person; whole and integrated. They didn't always pat me on the back; however they did challenge me to be my best self academically, spiritually, and personally. They were more than teachers. Life coaches would be a much more accurate description of who they were. I teach as my way of "paying it forward," so to speak, for everything they taught me about myself, God, others, and the world. It's a ministry and for me the goal of that ministry is to touch my students' hearts so as to help shape their character and ultimately their destiny as young men of the future. It is fitting and appropriate then for me to teach in a learning environment that "is dedicated to forming young men for spiritual, academic, and personal excellence in the
Catholic, Marianist tradition."
Why do I choose to teach Religion? I've always had a fascination with religion, faith, and Catholic theology. It's had a tremendous impact in my life. Although I'm certified to teach Social Studies, my love is theology.
